                                    Chars Shado  and Jim McGillivray

Registration # 304 797                    Foaled April 25, 1984

Purchased in 1985 as a yearling

Because of an accident I had no hands and one leg was almost useless so I was in a wheel chair part of the time. Shado ended up being my therapy. He would lower his head and neck to left me out of the wheel chair and when I got shaky he would ease me back down in the chair. We did this every day until I got strength back in my leg.

I taught him everything with no rope or halter because of my hands. I taught him to rear – attack , smile, say yes and boots me from behind with his head to push me across the corral.

I started coming to Schatzlein’s a couple times a month and worked at  trying to get in a saddle but couldn’t get my leg up and over, finally after 17 years of not riding I came down to the shop and was able to get in to the saddle.  At this time Shado was 11 years old. I got him in a low spot and struggled to get on with no halter bridle or saddle. And I started walking him around.

After 3 weeks I came down to the shop and brought a new saddle from Schatzlein's.      Janet and Paul came up north and I went on my first trail ride. We’ve been going ever since.

My Best Friend - Shado
