FITTING A WINTEC
SADDLE
Wintec saddles are immediately comfortable for both horse and rider. Due to the
soft materials and nature of the wool flock the panel of the saddles will
compact down and take the shape of your horse very quickly, eliminating a long
breaking in period.
In order to keep the saddle fitting well, you should have the fit of your Wintec
saddle checked after 4 to 6 weeks of riding to ensure sufficient clearance is
still being provided to the horse's wither.
We recommend riders check the fit of their saddles after 3 months and then every
6 months throughout their saddles life, to ensure the saddle continues to fit
correctly as the horse changes shape according to its level of fitness.
If the saddle comes too close to the wither, the panel should be inspected to
see whether the best alternative is to either add more wool to the front of the
saddle or fit a slightly narrower gullet plate. In general we would advise the
fitting of a narrow gullet plate, providing there is still ample resilience and
depth in the wool panel, so the closest fit to the horse's back is maintained.
When the saddles are restuffed, care should be taken not to over-stuff the
panels as in most cases this will cause an incorrect fit on the horse and
improper weight distribution. It is a far better alternative to fill the panel
back to approximately its original stuffed shape and lift the front of the
saddle through the fitting of one of our fractional fit gullets as required.
Through the use of the Easy Change Gullet System and Wool Repacking a Wintec
saddle can be custom fitted to your horse's back. Wintec recommend that a
qualified saddle fitter is consulted when buying and fitting a new saddle.
The Easy-Change Gullet System is a revolution
in convenience
and comfort for horses and riders. It's a system developed to ensure that a
saddle maintains the best fit for a horse by allowing riders to change a
saddle's fit to suit a horse's changing shape.
Did you know ...
The Easy-Change Gullet System provides the flexibility of changing the fit of
a saddle to suit a horse's changing shape. This means you don't need to buy a
saddle for every horse you own and you don't need to buy a new saddle for a new
horse.
You can easily determine the correct gullet width for your horse with an
Easy-Measure Gullet
Gauge.
The Easy-Change Gullet System is available in a complete set as well as an i ndividual gullet kit.

EASY-CHANGE GULLET STEPS
To Use Wintec's Easy Change Gullet System follow this Simple 6-step
Guide:
Hold the saddle in a vertical position so the cantle is pointing towards the
ground and the seat of the saddle is facing towards you. Keeping the saddle in
this position place the saddle between yourself and the edge of a table or
bench. This provides you with leverage and easy access to the head of the
saddle.
 |
1. |
Unscrew the two screws located under the skirts in the head of the
saddle.
|
 |
2. |
Pull away the velcro® closure in the head of the saddle and pull
the panel down from the point pockets freeing the front half of the
panel.
|
 |
3. |
Remove the two screws at each end of the gullet plate. Before
fitting new width gullet apply more loctite to the screws you have just
removed. LOCTITE 243 Threadlocker is recommended. Alternatively use the
new screws supplied with a gullet kit. Do not use any screws which do
not have Loctite applied to secure gullet.
|
 |
4. |
Fit new width gullet by only starting each screw until the gullet is
lined up, then holding the gullet tight to the tree in the head of the
saddle, fully tighten both screws.
|
 |
5. |
Re-fit the panel in the point pockets.
|
 |
6. |
Re-screw the head of the saddle and close velcro®
fastening.
Important: Head screws must not be over-tightened. A firm
pressure is all that's needed.
